Our Commitment
To deliver MUOS-compatible communication systems that outperform legacy defense solutions—backed by real-world testing, expert engineering, and a relentless commitment to the warfighter.

We Don’t Just Build It—We Deliver It
At W5 Technologies, we build the kind of wireless communication products we’d want to use ourselves—rugged, reliable, and simple to use. Our team pushes the state-of-the-art while using our 100 combined years of telecom experience designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining wireless equipment to keep us grounded. When you work with W5, we deliver results, backed by real-world experience.
Our specialty is in developing cutting-edge MUOS-compatible equipment for defense applications. While other companies sell concepts, we build and deliver systems that work. From development to deployment, we guide our clients every step of the way—with technical support, installation integration, and real-world insight designed to eliminate surprises in the field.
We Embrace Failure—So You Don’t Have To
We believe in breaking things early, so they don’t break when it matters. Our engineering philosophy is:
- Make an educated guess
- Build the highest risk pieces
- Fail (i.e. get kicked in the teeth)
- Learn from the failure
- Repeat
We fail fast, iterate quickly, and refine equipment that stands up to the harshest conditions. Our approach sets us apart in a market where many rely on modeling and computer simulations alone.
We design and test systems with the end-user in mind, and our goal is simple: take complexity off your plate, so you can focus on the mission.
Who We Serve
We work closely with:
- DOD/Government officials navigating complex procurement timelines
- Small Business and Large Prime Technical teams sourcing mission-critical hardware
- Decision-makers responsible for securing communications infrastructure that works the first time
We know working within government frameworks isn’t easy—budgets get delayed, processes are slow, and approvals are hard-earned. That’s why empathy is a key part of our process. We meet our clients where they are and help them move forward without friction.
Our Legacy: From Engineering Services to Mission-Critical Manufacturing
W5 Technologies was founded in 1991 by Bob and Anne White as a single person engineering services company. The initial goal was simple, be their own bosses, deliver great engineering, and limit the number of employees. That path was abruptly upended in 2005 when W5 was awarded a contract to support General Dynamics’ MUOS efforts. General Dynamics desperately needed cellular engineers to build the vision that was MUOS. W5 recognized that Motorola’s cellular infrastructure division was starting to wind down operations in the Phoenix area, hired the best and brightest cellular engineers in the Valley, and subcontracted them to General Dynamics to build MUOS. What was a single-person consulting operation, quickly scaled to a 50-person engineering team supporting MUOS at General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin.
After the contract work ended and W5 had a large contingent of MUOS engineers, the vision for W5 evolved: W5 would no longer be just a contracting house, but a manufacturer of highly specialized wireless systems supporting the MUOS network.
That transition was driven by two key leaders—Jason, the technical architect behind our flagship MUOS Simulator, and Elaine, who built the operational foundation to turn W5 into a high-performing Defense Prime. Together, they transformed the company from contractor support into a trusted defense innovator with in-house manufacturing, proven processes, and a product that’s now setting the industry standard.
W5’s roots in commercial cellular and MUOS aren’t just part of our history—they’re the basis for our credibility and capability today. We know what it takes to build mission-critical tech, because we’ve been doing it for decades.

Jason Ferguson
President
Jason Ferguson is a leading expert in wireless communications with over 25 years of experience designing and deploying advanced wireless systems for both commercial and DoD applications. As President at W5 Technologies, he is the technical architect behind Mighty MUOOS™ and Mighty MUOSe™, two of the only field-ready, MUOOS-compatible systems on the market today.
Jason brings deep expertise as a MUOS and cellular communications subject matter expert, having served as the technical lead for the MUOS Radio Access Network and System Integration & Test. He pioneered feature-based system testing approaches that significantly increased test coverage while reducing time and cost. His work on software reliability and test automation has directly contributed to faster deployment cycles and higher system integrity in mission-critical environments.
Prior to W5, Jason served as Technical Market Manager at Motorola for a major CDMA cellular provider—overseeing initial trials, deployment, and post-launch support of CDMA Radio Base Station products. He also played a key role in protocol conformance testing during the product line’s evolution from circuit-switched to IP-based backhaul infrastructure.
Jason holds a B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Physics from Illinois Wesleyan University and is the named inventor on a patent related to jamming LTE cellular systems, reflecting his forward-thinking contributions to wireless security and defense applications.
With a proven track record of turning complex wireless challenges into operational solutions, Jason leads W5’s innovation efforts with a focus on real-world reliability, speed to field, and warfighter-ready design.

Elaine Ferguson
